The story of The Being:
Canoeing out to a small island off the coast of Connecticut with friends in 1986, a small nub of wood protruding from the sand at the water's edge caught my eye. Inspired and curious, I dug until I uncovered a fascinating object, and in the canoe it went.
After drying it and observing it, I removed portions of wood to enhance the figurative aspects of the form, I then applied a torch to transform it and develop an ashen patina to the wood surface, and thus The Being was created. The Being has followed me for 28 years as a wooden companion until its recent and final transformation into bronze.
The Being has no peers, and yet references mythological forms.
Composed of solid bronze, it stands 63” tall, 25” wide, 14” deep, and weighs 270 pounds.
