Smuttynose Brewery

Minimal Impact LEED Design

The Smuttynose Brewery is a world class craft brewer in Portsmouth, NH which seeks to expand to a proposed LEED Gold facility on an existing 14 acre farm. The site is planned to process all of its storm water through vegetated ornamental rain gardens designed by terra firma.

Terra firma worked in collaboration with Altus Engineering to layout and grade the site with minimal disturbance to the existing tree cover and orchard. The overall site coverage including the 40,000 sf brewery complex is only 21%.

The landscape plan stressed limiting construction impacts to the existing site, the use of sustainable native vegetation, maintaining existing trees to shade the parking and permeable pavement.
