Rain Garden at Carl's Meat Market, Kittery, Maine

Given a site nearly completely covered with buildings and parking adjacent to a marsh, storm water management becomes critically important to maintain high water quality in the marsh.

Terrafirma, along with Altus Engineering, designed a storm water plan and plant material for the bio-retention areas to help filter the storm water runoff prior to release. This process dramatically improves storm water quality by removing suspended solids, heavy materials, nutrients, and lowering the temperature of parking lot storm water run-off.

Improving appeal to the retail site terrafirma developed a planting plan with lush meadow plants to blend with the edge of the marsh and increasing aesthetic appeal.

Shown here is the newly planted rain-garden in it's first year in the process of going dormant. Still vibrant with dormant foliage!
